About MassAccess

Mass Access is a free online program that matches people with disabilities with accessible housing in the community. In 2013 the site was updated to keep in line with the ever changing technology platform used for MassAccess and to enable the site to remain accessible for all users.

The Massachusetts Accessible Housing Registry (MassAccess) is committed to achieving meaningful accessibility of this website for all users, including users with disabilities.

We follow specific Commonwealth Web Accessibility Standards designed to meet the needs of users with disabilities. The Commonwealth Web Accessibility Standards are generally based on standards used by the Federal government for technology accessibility for people with disabilities, and web content accessibility guidelines developed by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C).

Background of MassAccess

Created because:

  1. Developers and managers were having difficulty renting their accessible units
  2. Housing advocates and people with disabilities who needed accessible features couldn’t find the units

• Enabled through MA General Law Chapter 151B
• First version of Registry launched in 1995 with funding from the Massachusetts Rehabilitation Commission. It has since been updated first in 2008,  2013 and again in 2014.
